Formulation and Evaluation of Sublingual Tablet of Meclizine Hydrochloride
Abstract
Meclizine Hydrochloride is an oral antiemetic medication used to treat nausea, vomiting, vertigo, and motion sickness. However, its oral bioavailability is weak (25%), and its solubility is significant. A study aimed to develop a sublingual tablet with inclusion complexes of Meclizine Hydrochloride and β-cyclodextrin in a 1:1 dosage ratio. The formulation was tested for precompressional and postcompressional evaluation parameters, and the results showed that the tablets were effective in treating nausea, vomiting, and vertigo. The study also found that the dissolution and solubility rate of the tablets increased with the limited content of β-cyclodextrin. Further clinical studies are needed before the tablets can be used in the market.
